Social Networking causes friction within WEB 2.0 environments
Whenever moving towards Web 2.0 you always have to consider employees management
system. Most of the companies find it hard to follow up with web 2.0 as said
by Mark Murtagh who is the product director of Websense. Murtagh asked a number
of delegates for the need of leverage Web 2.0 if it was meant for consumer centric
or enterprise services. This would lead to few benefits like the ability to
drive and communicate the dependency of both business amongst each other, especially
if one needs to solicit feedback.
This led a number of IT professionals to be caught up in between two arguments.
Staff have also managed to use this technology and so they demand portal to
be collaborated. When speaking about blocking the social network sites Murtagh
stated that if these sties were blocked then how much would the staff react.
He also stated that around two-third of the people would always react negatively
to the situation as most of the companies may never succeed in attracting new
talent as it would only annoy employees that are existing.
He also stated that on restricting the use he may be able to see much better
levels of productivity. He also stated that they were providing different levels
of communication for their various employees. But he also stated that web 2.0
had its impact on the employees as it simply lacked the visibility over the
content stream. So you may never analyze any source of information with an aim
to decide that it is clean. Peter Bassill, a speaker, also claimed that the
company had blocked all the social networking for around a week leading them
to use a more granular approach to their staffs needs. He also stated that technology
may only respond to the written policy. So one may have to try and buy new equipments
while coming to a point where they may be mature.
