Ways of improving external search engines usability
Some of the best web masters spend mush of their time on analyzing logs, server
logs so that they can determine where are these visitors coming from and which
are the pages that they are viewing. So, the most important details that are
shown by these search engines show are the visitor details. For most of the
people this set of information is considered as extremely useful and fascinating
and has developed into a hobby.
The procedure would start with using search logs and seeing some of the most
popular search engines and at the same time trying to see what are the most
popular searched items by people. This piece of information may be considered
as pretty useful but it hardly analyzed as the words searched by most people
come from search engines like Google which counts for 70% of the search made
using some of the most commonly used keywords or phrases like “download
software” or even “free software download”.
This may be an important information but things are often missed. First part
is that the link present is usually critical and what most of the visitors experience
after selecting the link. There are a number of web sites that may in fact spend
significant amount of resource making sure that they get high placement in the
search engine list, but always spend a very little time on the designing part,
how the results should be displayed allowing visitors to achieve the desired
goals. With most of the on-site search engines it is in fact very much easy
to control the results that have to be presented to the visitors making sure
that the results presented are helpful.
So, the three methods that can in fact be used to improve the appearance along
with their relevancy are Recreating the search logs, cognitive walk through
and testing usability.
